March 25 & 26, 2017 | The Way of the Cross: The Way to Perspective

Dr. Jeff Holmes

Philippians 3:7-8

Do you like to lose? Does anyone actually like to lose? Chances are the answer is no. Nobody thinks losing is good. Nobody goes out into the world wanting to lose. Except for the Apostle Paul. It's as if he eagerly raises his hand and embraces it. What happened to Paul that got him to this point? To this point of counting all gain as loss? What does that mean? Paul understood something that we don't inherently understand—the cross itself is first and foremost a symbol of loss.

March 18 & 19, 2017 | Way of the Cross: The Way to Peace

Dr. David Whitaker

Romans 5:1-11

There's no doubt the cross of Jesus is the death most talked about than any other death in history. For a lot of us, the cross is just this thing we talk about when we take communion or at Easter, and we don't see it as something that has implications for us on an everyday basis. The cross has a way of speaking into our daily life. As we experience challenges in our daily lives, we all struggle with identity, insecurity, self-worth and more. Behind all of that is this thing called guilt—something we don't like to talk about, don't want to admit to... but we all struggle with it. So what does the cross have to say about it?

March 11 & 12, 2017 | Redeemed: Strong & Confident in Christ

Dr. David Whitaker

Colossians 4:7-18

Together is better than alone. That the whole christian life and experience and ministry is meant to happen together—in relationship with one another and the community that creates is vital. We see that over and over in how Paul and our current leaders do ministry. Paul could easily seem like a loner, but he knew the key to his ministry was the people around him. God uses all kinds of people to accomplish his work. There isn't one kind of person with one kind of story... He's uses every single one of us.

March 4 & 5, 2017 | Redeemed: Walking & Talking

Dr. David Whitaker

Colossians 4:2-6

Think about where God has placed you in this moment. What place or state do you find yourself? A new job? An old job? Your marriage? Your school? How about your neighborhood? Are you physically healthy? What about your family? Could it be that God has you in whatever place or condition you're in for something bigger than you? Perhaps is has nothing to do with you at all. God is writing a story, and the story is not about you.

February 25 & 26, 2017 | Redeemed: Who Do You Work For?

Dr. Jeff Holmes

Colossians 3:22 - 4:1

We all are in a state of dependence. No matter where you are in life, you are a servant of someone or something. As young students, we depend on our education to provide for our future. As a business-owner, we depend on our clients to bring in revenue for our business. As employees, we depend on our employer to pay us so that we can put food on the table. We all work for someone or something that provides tools we need to survive. So who do you work for?

February 18 & 19, 2017 | Redeemed: The Gospel & Family

Dr. David Whitaker

Colossians 3:20-21

Next to your relationship with God, it is your relationships with your parents that have had the biggest impact on you. Who your parents are and how they treated you in those early years and how they have continued to treat you influences your life. Some of us had great parents. Some of us had mediocre parents. Some of us had awful parents. And yet, against the backdrop of all of that, Scripture says over and over again that we are to honor our father and mother. How?

February 11 & 12, 2017 | Redeemed: The Gospel & Marriage

Dr. David Whitaker

Colossians 3:18-19

Marriage has fallen into disrepute. Jesus made it clear that marriage is between a man and a woman and it is God's perfect design. Mankind didn't come up with marriage—it's His doing. He created it and it existed from the very beginning. And it's the display of the profound mystery of Christ's love for the church.
